Funding for Clubs and Societies

Clubs and Societies – are you in need of some extra funding? We have loads of funds and awards which you can apply for which can help you develop your club with new projects and ideas!

  • Grants from the Union

You can apply for grants from the Union in order to put on events, go to conferences, publicize your club/society or generally do whatever you want. There are applied for on Socweb or through grant budgets for Societies. If you have any questions, check out the factsheet on Finance in the Training and Resources section on www.ueastudent.com.

  • £500 pots of money from Unlimited

The ‘Sustainability Challenge’ has been created to inspire your groups to develop projects that are ‘socially enterprising’ which will contribute to  the sustainability of your club, society or peer support group. The project must be:

Socially Enterprising -An innovative NEW project which doesn’t just benefit individuals but supports your group as a whole and ideally will have knock-on benefits for the wider community.

Sustainable- A project that contributes to your society, its survival and growth beyond your involvement… You’ve got to show that what you do will have benefits in the long term.

You will need to attend a workshop, and then fill out an application form. Workshops will be in the week commencing 12/11/12 email Lynne Simpkin for more details and to book onto a workshop.Lynne.simpkin@uea.ac.uk

  • Cultural Fund

The aim of this fund is to enable students to share their cultural beliefs and activities with the wider student population. This fund is made possible by the Union of UEA Students and the UEA Annual Fund.

The idea of the fund is to loan you the initial money needed to put on an event celebrating your culture. The maximum amount available for each application is £500; however, extra funding will be considered upon request. We will look more favourably on projects which intend to break even or make a profit in order to ensure a continuation of the fund.   •  Working Together

The Working Together: Community and Student Links Project is a fund which aims to enable students to partake in activities that benefit the local community. This fund is made possible by the Union of UEA Students and the UEA Annual Fund. The maximum amount available for each application is £250; however, extra funding will be considered upon request. If you currently would or would like to work with an outside organisation on a community project, this is the fund for you. Contact Elena for info or an application form at E.Allen@uea.ac.uk

  •  NACUE’s new Innovation Fund. Two types of awards are available:

Innovation Award

These are awards of up to £3,000 and are intended to help develop and launch an innovative new project or initiative which ensures sustainability within or around the society. Around 48 societies (across the country) will receive this award during the 2012/13 academic year. Societies entering this award will create a 2 minute video of their society and the project they would like to fund. This will be backed up by at least a two page business plan.  The videos will be made public on the 15th November.

New Frontier Award

These are awards of up to £8,000 and are a limited award available to societies needing larger investments for pioneering investment-intensive projects e.g. setting up a seed accelerator, society incubator, or revenue generating project. More than 2 societies will receive this award during the 2012/13 academic year. Societies will submit a 2 minute video and business plan of less than 6 pages using the template. Six societies will be invited to pitch on the 15th November. We shall invite match funders to the event who are interested in supporting the enterprise society in the match funding.

  •  ESSA/RBS

Last year our Management Society won £2,000 and Skydiving won £500- this time it could be your club or society! Look at the website to see how you can apply and then contact Lynne Simpkin, lynne.simpkin@uea.ac.uk or Joe Levell, your Finance Officer at union.finance@uea.ac.uk so that we can help out www.rbsessa.com. There are 3 levels of award, so different options for the level of effort you want to put in.
