The Union of UEA Students is now recruiting for four Student Trustees to sit on our Trustee Board. The term of office for new Trustees will run from September 2013 to September 2014.
The Union is a charity and the Trustee Board has responsibility for ensuring that the Union upholds the law and follows the guidelines laid down by the Charity Commission. The Trustees hold the Union’s management to account and scrutinise the effectiveness of the Union’s operations as well as reviewing newly passed Union policy.
The Board meets three times a semester with further meetings in May, June and August. The meetings start at 7 pm and last approximately two hours. There are, also, agenda papers (budgets, policy proposals and HR documents) that Trustees need to read before each meeting.
Working as a Trustee t is a great opportunity to gain experience in decision making at the heart of a Third Sector organisation with an annual turnover of £11 million. In return for the work and commitment that you will bring to your role, you will learn a range of transferrable skills which you can build into your CV.
For any students coming from distance, the Union will pay travel costs and for students who are parents or carers we will pay care costs. Work as a Trustee will also contribute to a student’s record if they are taking part in UEA Volunteers. We give full training to all our trustees. We anticipate holding a training day for new trustees in June
If you would like more info, please call in for a chat with Joe, you can find him in the Student Officer Centre on the first floor of Union House, above the Hive.
For the work of the Trustees, you can find the documents from last year’s meetings on the UUEAS website at http://www.ueastudent.com/voice/documents/trustee-board
Please note: the deadline for applications is noon, Friday, 8 March. The applications are placed before Union Councillors who then elect the four Students Trustees from those applying. The election takes place at the last meeting of Union Council on 14 March.
