At Union House reception from 9-5 today, Emmanuel Williams will be taking part in a sponsored silence. The purpose of this is to raise money for an NGO called Restless Development. Restless Development (RD) tackle development issues such as HIV/AIDS, teenage pregnancy and youth unemployment in South Africa and many other developing countries. As a volunteer for this organisation, Emmanuel will be raising money to support the work of RD by dressing up as a doctor, and not talking for the whole day. The idea of not talking will mirror the silent but fatal disease of HIV/AIDS, which is pretty much a taboo topic in South Africa. The whole experience should be very interesting as he has never attempted something like this before so do come and show your support. A donation box will be on the desk and Emmanuel will be communicating to students and staff with the simple medium of pens and paper!
