Student Action For Refugees (STAR) Conference in London

Student Action for Refugees (STAR) is holding a national student conference in London on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th of November.

STAR is a national network of student societies who welcome refugees to the UK and who work in partnership with NUS on the Equal Access campaign.Image

The conference will provide students with training, including workshops on campaigning, volunteering and event organisation, as well as talks by top human rights professionals with up-to-the-minute information on the situation for refugees.

We need your help to promote the conference, so that as many students as possible get the opportunity to attend.

Please could you pass on information about the conference to your societies; put it in your newsletters; on your TV screens; promote on Facebook and Twitter; and via any other channels that will help us reach students.

We have already put a leaflet about STAR and some postcards giving details of the conference in the mail to you. If you would like us to send more of these do not hesitate to contact us.

Spend the weekend in London with other students hearing up-to-the-minute information on the situation for refugees from top human rights professionals. Take part in workshops to learn how to effectively campaign, volunteer and organise events to help refugees and welcome them to the UK. Get to know like-minded students even better at the Saturday night party!

The line-up includes Jeremy Seabrook, Guardian Journalist and author of over 40 books including ‘The Refuge and the Fortress’.

Freedom for Torture, The British Red Cross and Brighter Futures, a campaigning group of young asylum seekers, will be giving some truly inspirational talks.
