Key Council Decisions – 23rd January

  • Approved Karaoke, Enactus, Water Aid and Scottish Societies – and UEA Nightline’s name change to Norwich Nightline


  • Heard presentation from Ben Milner, SCI Associate Dean, on how to use NSS and module evaluation results to improve the quality of teaching


  • Heard presentation from the Trustees on the work of the Trustee Board and questioned the Trustees about the Improvement Plan, the relationship between Council and the Board and any payments to the former Chief Executive


  • Appointed J Raynes as UG rep on the TPPG, J Matthews, A Ncube and M Gallagher to the Library Forum and H Staynor and V Patel to the IT Forum


  • Heard presentation on the new Full Time Officer roles consultation and discussed the content of the questions for the Referendum to be called by SOC


  • Referred the proposals on Policy Lapse to the next meeting


  • Agreed a new Code of Conduct for UUEAS members


  • Agreed a policy to campaign to oppose the rise in the rents the University charges for student accommodation called for better consultation by the University on how they sent rent levels


  • Agreed a policy on developing a detailed relationship agreement with the University with principles to be brought to Union Council for agreement


  • Agreed clarifications to the Staff Protocol


  • Rejected a proposal to give Bar staff discretion in implementing the ‘Members Only’ admissions policy


  • Policies on Emergency Resolutions, Fair Pay Campus, and a Scrutiny Committee were withdrawn by the proposers
