On Saturday 8th March, 4 teams of enterprising UEA students will have the opportunity to pitch up their very own market stall in competition with each other and to raise money for charity as part of the Union of UEA Students’ Pitch Up competition. A percentage of the money made by each team will go to charity. Each team has chosen a charity that means something personally to them.
“Pitch Up” is a Dragon’s Den style competition where students had to compete against dozens of other students in order to be chosen to receive a £400 business start-up loan.
The 4 teams are:
- Nadine Hepper – Handmade Jewellery made from recycled materials
- John Riches – Bespoke Calligraphy artwork
- Meng Wang – Freshwater Pearl Jewellery
- Catherine Woolston – Vintage and Upcycled Jewellery and Cards
The competition is aimed at encouraging students to think outside the box and give them experience of setting up and running their own business. The event is funded by UEA’s Annual fund, which is supported through charitable donations from alumni and friends of the University.
“I was thrilled with the level of student talent that entered Pitch Up 2014 and wish our 4 successful student entrepreneurs the best of luck for trading on Saturday 8th March” – Joe Levell, Union Finance Officer.
The Stalls will be situated in the Castle Mall on level 2 outside Mothercare in the centre of Norwich between 9am-6pm on Saturday. Each team is offering something different for city centre shoppers and are excited at the opportunity to sell their goods to members of the public.
