News about the Islamic Centre

The planning permission on the current temporary Islamic prayer facility is currently due to expire at the end of June 2014.  The University is therefore looking carefully at alternative options.

The University is hoping to develop the Chancellors Drive Annex site for a possible future teaching and laboratory building which is much needed.

The University is actively consulting with interested parties, including the Students’ Union, the chaplains and the Islamic Society to explore options, to understand the nature of concerns and/or any compromises which might need to be made around alternative options.

The University chaplains have proposed that space could be found within the Multifaith Centre (MFC) for Islamic individual and congregational worship, if remodelling and refurbishment work was undertaken in the Centre. This is being looked at.

No decisions have yet been taken, and the consultation process is proceeding in a constructive and helpful way. We will keep you updated.
