An emergency union council meeting will be held this coming Thursday.
A motion will be proposed to incorporate the Union. This means that the UUEAS will have a separate legal identity to the board of trustees, unlike it’s current set-up as an unincorporated organisation. This, it is hoped, would relieve risk to those in trustee positions as they would not be legally liable as individuals if the Union had any financial difficulties. Many other Higher Education Unions have already taken this move. This motion would not change other constitutional or democratic provisions of the UUEAS. The proposer, Academic Officer Louise Withers-Green, thinks this will be in the best interest of the Union.
